Photography Dartmoor, Coast & Countryside

A fine art landscape photography portfolio celebrating the extraordinary natural diversity of Devon. From the granite tors of Dartmoor to the red cliffs of the Jurassic Coast, shot from the heart of Mid Devon and available as museum-quality archival prints.

Devon is not one landscape. It is many, layered on top of each other.

Devon landscape photography presents a challenge that is also its greatest gift: the county refuses to be defined by a single scene. Within a single day you can stand on a windswept Dartmoor tor at dawn, photograph the red sandstone cliffs of the Jurassic Coast at golden hour, and end on the wild Atlantic headlands of North Devon as the light fails. No other county in England offers that range within one day's drive.

Based in Mid Devon between Exeter and Dartmoor, I have photographed this county across all seasons and conditions for many years. The images in this collection span the length and breadth of Devon, from the hidden estuary villages of the South Hams to the dramatic clifftops of Hartland Quay, from aurora-lit skies above the moor to still winter mornings at Ladram Bay.

Every photograph is available as a fine art archival print, individually produced and finished to museum quality. Whether you were born in Devon, have visited, or simply love the landscapes of the South West, these images are made to live on walls and be treasured for generations.

Dartmoor

Dartmoor Landscape Photography

Dartmoor National Park is one of the last true wildernesses in southern England. Its granite tors rise from the moorland like ancient sentinels, the skyline broken only by the occasional rowan tree or distant farmstead. In all weathers and all seasons, Dartmoor delivers extraordinary landscape photography opportunities that are unlike anywhere else in Devon.

I have photographed Dartmoor in fog, frost, and the extraordinary colours of a rare aurora. The moor rewards those who research conditions, arrive before dawn, and are willing to wait. The images in this collection represent years of returns to the same locations, each visit revealing something the previous one did not.

Dartmoor landscape photography prints are available in all standard sizes, from intimate A3 pieces to large format statement works. The stark, minimal compositions of the moorland suit both contemporary and traditional interiors.

Devon Coastal Landscape Photography

Devon's coastline is as varied as its inland landscapes. The south coast is a study in soft light and sheltered coves: red sandstone sea stacks at Ladram Bay, the aquamarine waters of the South Hams, and the ancient marine formations of the Jurassic Coast. The north coast is altogether wilder, where the Atlantic meets the cliffs at Hartland Quay and Black Church Rock with a ferocity that demands respect.

Coastal landscape photography in Devon requires an understanding of tides, light, and weather that only comes from time spent on location. The most dramatic coastal conditions produce the most powerful images, from breaking storms at high tide to the glassy stillness of dawn on a sheltered cove in midsummer.

Long exposure techniques work particularly well on Devon's coast, smoothing the movement of waves into silk and transforming the red rock formations into something almost elemental in quality.

Mid Devon

Mid Devon Countryside Photography

Mid Devon, the quiet heart of the county between Dartmoor's southern slopes and the Exe Valley, offers a very different kind of landscape photography from the dramatic coasts and wild moors. This is a patchwork of deep-banked lanes, rolling pasture, and ancient farmsteads where the light falls differently in every season.

Summer evenings over harvested fields, frost on the valley floor at sunrise, the annual drama of a Devon sunset burning through a gap in the hedgerow. The countryside of Mid Devon is understated but deeply beautiful, and it takes a long acquaintance to understand its rhythms and photograph them well.

As a photographer based here, I return to these locations year after year, watching the same fields change through seasons and years. That long relationship with a place produces photography that is rooted rather than passing.

Why Devon for Landscape Photography?

01

Dartmoor National Park

England's last great southern wilderness. Ancient granite tors, open moorland, and skies dark enough for serious astrophotography. Dartmoor rewards the landscape photographer who arrives early and stays late, offering conditions that change by the hour across every season.

02

The Jurassic Coast

A UNESCO World Heritage Site stretching from East Devon into Dorset. Red sandstone sea stacks at Ladram Bay, the dramatic rock formations at Sidmouth, and hidden coves accessible only on foot. The Jurassic Coast is one of the UK's most photographically rewarding stretches of coastline.

03

North Devon Coastline

Where the Atlantic meets England. Hartland Quay, Black Church Rock, and Croyde Bay represent some of the most dramatically beautiful coastal landscape photography locations in the country. The north coast is best photographed in stormy conditions or at the extreme edges of the day.
